The Hildesheim Cathedral Girls' Choir

As one of the oldest girls‘ choirs at one of the German episcopal churches, the girls’ choir at Hildesheim Cathedral was founded in 1973 by the then director of music at the cathedral, Hermann Bode. In 1982, it won 1st prize at the European Choir Competition in Neerpelt, Belgium.

From 2000 onwards, the girls' choir was under the direction of cathedral cantor Dr Stefan Mahr and expanded its repertoire to include all styles with a special focus on English cathedral music. The CD ‘I was glad - Mädchenkantorei am Hildesheimer Dom’ was released in 2011.

The girls' choir consists of groups that build on each other and is part of the Hildesheim Ecumenical Singing School. As a concert choir, the main choir is also involved in some of the cathedral choir's projects and thus offers the singers an insight into larger choral works.

Choir outings, visits abroad and visits to other girls‘ and boys’ choirs as part of the children's and youth choir association Pueri Cantores provide the singers with varied and meaningful leisure activities.

The girls receive individual vocal coaching from Juliane Gaube.

Since September 2021, the girls' choir at Hildesheim Cathedral has been under the direction of cathedral cantor Michael Čulo, with whom the girls already performed a ZDF television service in November 2021.

New singers are always welcome in the girls' choir!
